Coercing the media to publish materials in support of the Taliban

During a visit to Balkh Province, the Deputy for Press Affairs of the Ministry of Information and Culture of the Taliban called on the officials of independent media in this province to enforce the adherence of media activists to national interests and prevent the publication of materials that, according to this Taliban official, undermine national unity.

Furthermore, Muhajir Farahi, in continuation, spoke about the establishment of a fund to support journalists. Media officials in this meeting discussed the challenges they face in their activities and raised concerns about the absence of laws in the media sector, the high cost of electricity consumption by media outlets, and their dissatisfaction with certain supporting organizations for journalists.

Since the fall of the republican system, Taliban authorities have always demanded that the media reflect information according to the wishes of this group under the guise of national interests. As a result, the activities of more than half of the private media outlets in the country have ceased.
