Commencement of Mobile Phone Inspections Across Various Provinces of Afghanistan

Several citizens of Afghanistan, particularly in provinces including Herat, Ghor, Daikundi, and Bamyan, have reported that a process for inspecting mobile phones has begun, aimed at identifying anti-Taliban materials.

Local sources in Herat indicate that the process of mobile phone inspections, on Saturday, September 7, and that checkpoints have been established throughout the city to examine the devices of citizens.

Meanwhile, local sources in Bamyan and Daikundi have also reported that this process has commenced in their provinces. Furthermore, in Ghor, following the evening prayer at one of the mosques, the phones of several individuals were inspected.

This comes at a time when, just a few days ago, Nida Mohammad Nadeem, the Minister of Higher Education in Afghanistan, referred to social media users as apostates in a video that was disseminated on social media platforms.

In his remarks, Mr. Nadeem stated, “If you take a glance at X (Twitter) and Facebook, you will find all apostates of the world there.”

He further remarked regarding social media users that their language and writing may be in Pashto, yet their content betrays heresy. “Do not heed or trust their tweets, writings, and speeches.”

Following the collapse of the republic and the resurgence of the Taliban in Afghanistan, a myriad of laws and restrictions have been imposed over the past three years, profoundly the lives of citizens, particularly women.
