Faeiq: “The absence of female representatives at the third Doha meeting is disheartening”

Nasir Ahmad Faeiq, the acting representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations, has deemed the exclusion of civil society and women representatives from the third Doha meeting as disheartening.

Faeiq, speaking on Friday evening at the United Nations Security Council, stated: “It is disheartening that in the third Doha meeting, the political process and human rights have not been addressed as key and crucial topics, and the absence of Afghan civil society and women representatives is felt.”

“This will be considered a setback and indicative of normalizing the situation without any substantial changes, and any discussion about Afghanistan without considering the country’s fundamental issues, namely women’s and girls’ rights, will yield no tangible results,” Faeiq said.

The third meeting of countries’ special representatives on Afghanistan, hosted by the United Nations, will take place in Doha, Qatar, in the next week.

It is said that the Taliban group will also participate in this meeting, as according to the group’s statement, the agenda of this meeting has been crafted in agreement with this group.

While the third Doha meeting on Afghanistan will be held, it has been over 1000 days since the gates of schools have remained closed to girls above the sixth grade. Women and girls in Afghanistan lack the right to education, schooling, mobility, political participation, and presence in society.
