In a recent action, the Taliban’s supreme court has publicly lashed five individuals, including one woman, in Wardak province on charges of theft and fornication.
The Taliban’s supreme court announced on its X social media page that each defendant received 25 lashes. Additionally, two of those accused of fornication were sentenced to one month of punitive imprisonment.
The Taliban reverted to harsh and inhumane penalties, whipping numerous individuals in various provinces for offences such as sodomy, desertion from home, and theft.
The leader of the Taliban has repeatedly asserted that such punishments will continue, despite the widespread international criticism sparked by the public whipping of individuals. Nonetheless, the group persistently carries on with this practice, and such actions are becoming increasingly prevalent.
