Local sources in Badakhshan province reported that the prices of medication in this province have risen.
Residents of the Fayzabad city express that they are unable to purchase medication for their patients.
The unfavourable economic situation of the people and the lack of employment opportunities for the youth have led to a higher prevalence of depression among these individuals, with their parents stating that they lack the means to purchase and treat their children.
One patient at the Badakhshan provincial hospital, who preferred not to disclose her name, told the Afghan Women’s News Agency that she bought medication from a pharmacy for 2000 Afghanis in Badakhshan, but when they went to a pharmacy in Kabul after examinations, she could have bought the same amount of medication for 1000 Afghanis. “This is truly difficult for me to have to purchase medication at double the price,” she said.
Residents of Fayzabad City center of Badakhshan province urge Taliban officials to pay more attention to this issue and request for standard pricing to be established for pharmacies just like it is for food items and clothing.
