Malala Yousofzai, the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate from Pakistan, a human rights activist, and an advocate for girls’ right to education, has vehemently criticized the Taliban’s ban on educating girls in Afghanistan, describing this measure as part of the group’s systematic anti-women policies.
Yousofzai expressed her condolences for the education of girls in Afghanistan by sharing a video on her X social media page, commending their bravery against the Taliban’s oppression. She highlighted the three years that have elapsed since the ban on girls’ education, emphasizing that Afghan girls represent the true force of resistance and will never lose hope. Added, “You find creative ways to learn, even in the challenging circumstances.”
These criticisms rise at a time when 1,093 days have passed since schools have remained closed to girls in Afghanistan. The Taliban officials continue to keep the school gates shut in the country, even declaring inquiries about girls’ education to be prohibited until further notice.
The voice of Malala Yousofzai signifies not only solidarity with Afghan girls but also serves as a reminder of hope and determination that does not wane, even in the darkest days.
