Prohibition of Smartphone Use Among Education Employees in Farah Province

Local sources in Farah Province reported that, according to a directive from Mullah Hebatullah Akhundzada, the Taliban leader, the use of smartphones has been officially banned for employees of the Education Directorate and school teachers in the province.

A letter obtained by the Afghan Women’s News Agency indicates that all employees of the Education Departments in Farah Province, except administrative officials, are henceforth prohibited from using smartphones.

The letter further states: “If teachers and employees utilize smartphones, the responsibility falls upon the administration, which will be held accountable.”

This comes at a time when several citizens of Afghanistan, in various provinces including Herat, Ghor, Daikundi, and Bamyan, have reported on the inspection of mobile phones at security checkpoints.

Farah is among the vulnerable provinces in western Afghanistan that have endured significant political, social, and economic changes over the past three years.

Following the imposition of restrictive laws in various sectors, including the prohibition of girls’ education and work limitations imposed on women, the new directive now prevents education employees and teachers from utilizing smartphones.
