Several members of the women’s protest movement, known as the Purple Saturdays Movement, have vehemently criticized the Taliban’s ban on the education of girls above the sixth grade, deeming it the gravest crime perpetrated by the group against women and girls.

In a post on their X social media page, the movement that this action not only violates human rights but also undermines the societal fabric and deprives future generations of opportunities for learning and growth.

Members of this movement caution that the deprivation of girls above the sixth grade from education will have profound consequences for society, leading to severe harm to women and girls.

They call for urgent action by the international community to put an end to this prohibition, which they classify as a crime against humanity.

It has been 1,121 days since girls above the sixth grade in Afghanistan have been denied the right to attend, with the Taliban continuing to violate the rights of women and girls through the issuance of over 80 restrictive decrees.
