In response to the recent remarks made by Mullah Yahya Enabi, a mullah affiliated with the Taliban, several women assert that other religious scholars should not remain silent in the face of statements and policies that are detrimental to women. They emphasize the importance of advocating for the rights that every woman deserves and raising awareness among the populace.
Meanwhile, Maryam Maruf Arwin and Rukhshana Rezaei, two women’s rights activists, expressed their reactions through a video message, labeling Mullah Yahya Enabi’s statements as an affront and a pinnacle of darkness, misogyny, and the humiliation of women in Afghanistan.
In this video, Maryam Maruf Arwin, stated: “For us women in Afghanistan, it raises a profound question: what further atrocities will be committed by the Taliban under the guise of implementing Sharia against the people of Afghanistan, particularly against women and girls, communities, and ethnic minorities?”
She further urged that the religious scholars in Afghanistan awaken their consciences to stand against the exploitation of religion and the atrocities that being perpetrated.
Rukhshana Rezaei, another women’s rights activist, remarked regarding Mullah Enabi’s statements: “For years, women in Afghanistan have been victims of the absence of justice. Mullah Enabi’s words during one of the sermons in Panjshir reveal a pinnacle of darkness, a grotesque and misogynistic perspective, and a shameful disdain for Afghan women, as well as a misguided and erroneous discourse regarding Islam.”
She continued by stating that the esteemed scholars in Afghanistan must not permit individuals like him to propagate false and misleading narratives about Afghan women under the guise of authority and scholarly endorsement.
Meanwhile, several other women in Afghanistan assert that one should not exploit the emotions and religious beliefs of the people to wield any rhetoric against women and girls in Afghanistan, particularly when Islam accords a revered status to women.
