As Afghanistan grapples with multifaceted economic, political, and social crises, the number of individual humanitarian aid has escalated to unprecedented levels. Millions of the country’s inhabitants are in dire need of food, water, and other necessities due to extreme poverty, lack of access to healthcare and education, and political instability.
A substantial proportion of those seeking humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan consists of impoverished and single-headed women.
Gul Bibi is one of the women who bear the responsibility of supporting her family and earning a living by working as a cleaner in homes and private offices. However, for the past few months, she has been unable to work and is facing severe economic difficulties.
“A few months ago, I was employed as a cleaner in a private office, but after that office closed down, I became unemployed. Previously, even minimal assistance helped alleviate some of our struggles, but with the cessation of aid, our situation has worsened. At times, we even go to bed at night with empty stomachs,” Gul Bibi said.
Millions of people in Afghanistan require assistance due to severe poverty, unemployment, and lack of access to essentials such as healthcare and education.
Afsana, another single-headed woman facing economic challenges and in need of humanitarian aid, states, ”In the past, we would receive aid at least once or twice, but now there is no one to care about us. Assistance is not reaching those who truly deserve it, and are left bewildered, uncertain of how to navigate our lives amid these economic hardships.”
In recent years, the rising unemployment rate, escalating poverty, and social crises in Afghanistan have led to an unprecedented increase in the number of individuals requiring humanitarian assistance, with numerous families struggling to secure adequate food for themselves.
