Taliban Publicly Whips Two Persons 

The Taliban’s Supreme Court has reported the of a whipping sentence on two individuals in Bamiyan Province.

On Saturday, the Supreme Court announced in a news release that in the Yakawlang district of Bamyan, two individuals accused of deserting homes each received 39 lashes. The court did not provide details regarding the gender or identity of these individuals; however, the Taliban perceives fleeing the home as a crime for women.

The Taliban’s Supreme Court has added that its primary court in Yakawlang has also sentenced these two individuals to one year in prison each.

Since their resurgence in Afghanistan and subsequent rise to power, the Taliban have publicly whipped dozens of individuals, including women, on various charges.

Human rights organizations deem the public punishment of accused individuals as a violation of their human dignity and have called for the Taliban to cease such practices. However, the Taliban remain steadfast in their strict enforcement of these laws, continuing to whip accused individuals regularly.
