Reports indicate that the Taliban has provided private television officials in Afghanistan with a two-month deadline to convert all of their broadcasting content to audio formats.
According to the obtained information, a meeting took place between senior Taliban officials and media representatives in Kandahar province, during which the issue of broadcasting images of living beings was discussed and deliberated.
During this meeting, Taliban officials demanded fundamental changes to news dissemination practices and warned media representatives that failure to comply with these directives would necessitate the cessation of their broadcasting activities.
According to Article 17 of the Law on Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice of the Taliban, rat by Mullah Hebullah Akhundzada, the Taliban leader, it is stated that monitors may prohibit the broadcasting of content featuring images of living beings, and this law is now being implemented.
The Taliban’s actions against the media have sparked significant reactions from journalists, organizations supporting media rights, and advocates of freedom of expression.
Notably, just days ago, following a directive from the local administration in Badghis banning the broadcasting of images of living beings, television activities in that province were halted, and similar official prohibitions on the broadcasting of live images have been issued in several other provinces, including Kandahar, Helmand, and Takhar.
