Teenage Boy Commits Suicide in Kandahar

Local sources in Kandahar province reported the suicide of a teenage boy in this province.

According to sources, this teenage boy named Niaz Mohammad, took his own life in the afternoon of Sunday, July 7th, in the Maiwand district of Kandahar province, putting an end to his life. Niaz Mohammad, who was 15 years old and originally from Helmand province, had recently arrived in Kandahar province with his parents and brother.

According to sources, this teenage boy hanged himself after a verbal altercation with his father and brother.

With the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan, the suicide rate has increased, with several youths and teenagers in both urban centers and provinces taking their own lives.

The factors contributing to the rise in suicide rates among youth in the country are cited as family problems, poverty and lack of resources, unemployment, and a sense of hopelessness about the future.
