The account of Manizha Sediqi, a female prisoner of the Taliban, exemplifies the daily struggles of women in Afghanistan

Manizha Sediqi, a woman activist and advocate for women’s rights who endured a harrowing seven months in a Taliban prison, states, “During the seven months I spent in the prison of this group, I was subjected to severe physical, psychological, and emotional torture. These painful memories will remain with me and will never be erased from my mind.”

Sediqi, while criticizing human rights organizations, expresses that she is struggling with economic hardships; her family and dependents are under threat from the Taliban forces.

She implores the international community to pay attention to the plight of women in Afghanistan, to recognize the gender apartheid existing in the country, and to hold the Taliban accountable for their human rights violations, particularly regarding the rights of women.

Manizha’s voice echoes the sentiments of thousands of Afghans who endure hardship and injustice under the flag of the Taliban.

Women in Afghanistan are enduring the darkest days of their lives. Every day, they contemplate not merely survival, but rather death and the prospect of suicide.
