The statistics from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees show that more than 57% of the total Afghan immigrants returned from Pakistan were forced, while over 42% of them were voluntary.

Based on statistics provided by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, from the beginning of 2024 until now, the return of 36,365 Afghan refugees from Pakistan to Afghanistan has been recorded, indicating that more than 57% of all returnees were forced while approximately 42% were voluntary.

In the meantime, some of the Afghan migrants who have returned to the country are those who had left Afghanistan for Pakistan after the political changes due to security issues in Afghanistan and are now concerned about what their future will be like.

Sohrab Alokozai, one of the refugees expelled from Pakistan, was a military personnel in the previous government and is now concerned about his future since returning to Afghanistan.

“Now that I have returned to Afghanistan, I feel in danger for my life. My family is abroad, and I have nowhere to live. I was waiting in Pakistan for my asylum issues to be resolved, but unfortunately, these problems arose, and I don’t know what to do,” Alokozai said.

Nevertheless, the expelled migrants from Pakistan, there are women and girls in the midst who had gone to Pakistan to pursue their cases, including Sara Khawari, one of the expellees, who had embarked on a journey to Pakistan for her asylum process in Europe but is now concerned about her uncertain and unfinished business.

“Our arrival in Afghanistan was not voluntary. It has been close to two years that have been living amidst numerous challenges, including the processing of my asylum. However, since the expulsion of Afghans from Pakistan escalated, conditions have become even more difficult, leading to us to Afghanistan,” Khawari said.

In recent years, the migration of Afghans to its neighbouring countries, including Pakistan and Iran, has escalated compared to any other time. However, Afghans consistently faced inappropriate encounters with the police in these two countries, leading to their expulsion. Despite global efforts to stop the expulsion of Afghan asylum seekers, this trend is progressing.
