A group of protesting women and members of the Empowered Women of Afghanistan Movement have issued a statement vehemently against the oppressive actions of the Taliban, asserting the group is systematically violating the fundamental rights of women and girls through arbitrary detentions.
This women’s movement is calling for the immediate release of all unlaw detained individuals and the respect of the rights of women and girls. They urge the international community, organizations of women’s rights, and human rights entities to exert necessary pressure to halt these oppressions.
It is noteworthy that with the adoption of the Taliban’s new law on promoting virtue and preventing vice, restrictions and challenges to women’s rights have intensified, compelling women to cover their faces in public spaces.
The Taliban’s Minister of Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice stated that women are not even permitted to utter phrases such as ‘Alhamdulillah’ and ‘Subhanallah’ aloud during prayer, let alone sing songs or express themselves through music.
The Empowered Women of Afghanistan Movement emphasizes the necessity of global solidarity in supporting women and calls for the assistance of international organizations to secure freedom and justice for Afghan women.
