Two Women and One Man Whipped in Public in Faryab

The Taliban’s Supreme Court publicly lashed two women and one man in Faryab province. According to a release by the Supreme Court of the Taliban, one of them received 39 lashes and was sentenced to a year in prison for the charges of fleeing her home and engaging in an extramarital relationship, while the other woman was also subjected to 29 lashes.

The statement also noted that a man whipped 39 times for allegedly facilitating a woman’s escape from her home.

This comes on the heels of an incident yesterday in Balkh, where a man was lashed 39 times for the crime of sodomy, and also a short while ago, a woman was publicly whipped in Ghor.

Human rights organizations regard the public punishment of alleged offenders as a violation of their human dignity, urging the Taliban to put an end to such practices. However, the Taliban remain steadfast in their stringent laws and continue to lash accused individuals consistently.
