The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has announced that several women and girls in Bamyan Province have graduated from a midwifery training program.
In an X social media post on Sunday, the organization stated that this program, which has been supported by the European Union for the second time, aims to address the high rates of maternal and child mortality.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees stated in 2020 that approximately 20 women in Afghanistan lost their lives every day during childbirth or pregnancy. To address child mortality, a year-long program has been managed to train midwives in remote areas. Although the Taliban have deprived women and girls of their rights to work and academic pursuits, UN agencies are striving to create opportunities for employment and education for women in Afghanistan through diverse methods.
