UNAMA, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, has expressed concern over the continued imprisonment of Ahmad Fahim Azimi and Sediqullah Afghan, activists for girls’ education, and women’s rights activist, Manizha Sediqi.

UNAMA, on Wednesday, January 3rd, issued a statement in which it called for an end to arbitrary detentions by the Taliban.

“The continued arbitrary detention of education activists Ahmad Fahim Ahmadi and Sadiqullah Afghani, as well as women’s rights activist Meenaz Safi, since October, is concerning,” UNAMA stated.

UNAMA continues to call for an end to arbitrary detentions by the Taliban and the respect of rights to access family, lawyers, care, and fair trial for detainees.

The Taliban had detained numerous women protesters and girls’ education activists. While some were released after months of imprisonment and torture at the end of last year, several other girls’ education activists, including Ahmad Fahim Azimi, Sediqullah Afghan, and Manizha Sediqi remain imprisoned by the group.
