The French representative to the United Nations Security Council expressed concerns over the ongoing ban on girls’ education for over a thousand days and witnessed a 50% decline in women employees in government offices in the latest instance, signalling increased pressure on women.
Nasir Ahmad Faeq, Afghanistan’s representative to the United Nations, denounced the restrictions imposed on women by the Taliban as contrary to Islamic principles and emphasized the observance of the fundamental rights of citizens.
While most members of the United Nations Security Council voiced their opposition to increased pressure on women by the Taliban, the Russian Representative to the UN Security Council referred to the presence of ISIS in Afghanistan as a serious challenge to peace and regional stability, stating, “The Taliban group has not genuinely fought against this group and drug trafficking.”
During a special session of the United Nations Security Council on Afghan , the Japanese Ambassador criticized the Taliban’s suppression of popular protests as inappropriate, expressing Japan’s concerns through its embassy in Kabul to engage with the Taliban.
In this session, the report of the United Nations Secretary-General on Afghanistan was also scrutinized, revealing that 3% of women and 4% of men residing in Afghanistan have supported the recognition of the Taliban group as the government of Afghanistan.
