- The World Food Program (WFP) of the United Nations has issued a new report warning that 12.4 million people in Afghanistan are facing severe food insecurity, with many of them deeply concerned about how they will secure their next meal.
In a post on its social media page, the organization stated that it requires $617 million in funding to provide urgent assistance to those in need in December of this year. Furthermore, more than 11 million individuals have been left without aid due to resource shortages, and the organization is only able to support 1 million hungry people in the country.
Statistics indicate that 1.4 million children and breastfeeding mothers in the country are deprived of food packages due to a lack of funding. Meanwhile, nearly four million individuals have received cash assistance from the beginning of the current year to date.
International aid agencies have repeatedly about the escalating need for insufficient funding to address the critical situation facing the people of Afghanistan under Taliban rule, particularly for women and children.
