Women Protesters Urge the Cessation of Tyranny over Women and Girls in Afghanistan

Women protesters desire to end the oppression against women and girls in Afghanistan.

June 26 is designated as the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture by the United Nations, and this day is commemorated annually worldwide. The main objective is to promote respect for human rights and combat torture and abuse of power.

The Afghan Women’s Political Participation Network has stated in connection with the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture, stating that given the dire and undesirable situation of women and girls in Afghanistan and the repeated reports of torture and injustices inflicted upon them in the past three years, commemorating this event can be an opportune moment to bring serious attention to the violation of their human rights.

“The blatant oppression and injustice perpetrated by the Taliban against women and girls are evident and well-documented, and all these instances underscore the existence of gender apartheid in Afghanistan and can serve as compelling reasons for the recognition of gender apartheid,” part of the statement.

Members of the Afghan Women’s Political Participation Network have called on international judicial and legal bodies, the United Nations, the Human Rights Council, the Security Council, and all relevant international organizations, to respect the rights of women and children, and to respect vulnerable individuals more than ever on the occasion of the International Day in Support of Victims of Torture. They urge these entities to put an end to the blatant torture imposed on the people so that women and girls do not suffer further abuse, injustice, and oppression.
