Local sources in the Kandahar province have informed the media that the Taliban group detained and subjected a young man to torture for carrying epic Persian literature books and books about Ahmad Shah Massoud.
As per the sources, this young man was a student in Iran, and upon his return from Iran, he was inspected at a Taliban checkpoint on the Kabul-Kandahar highway, where his books were set ablaze. He was also subjected to insult, degradation, and torture. According to sources, the Taliban group initially tortured this young man and then set his books on fire.
It is reported that this young man hailed from the city of Kabul, and the Taliban intended to execute him, but other travellers intervened.
It is worth noting that the identity of this young man remains unknown. This incident took place on Thursday, June 20 in Kandahar.
With the return of the Taliban to power in Afghanistan, the detention and torture of youth on various charges have increased across the country.
