According to local sources in Herat Province, a relative of the former local police commander in the Pasun Zarghun district was apprehended by Taliban members and subsequently disappeared.
It is reported that this individual, named Hikmatullah Barakzi, was a resident of Dasht-e-Nezan in the Pashtun Zarghun district of Herat. He was arrested on July 16, and a few days following his detention, his body was returned to his family.
Images circulating of Hikmatullah’s corpse reveal that his entire body was bruised from severe beatings, with signs of torture evident on his throat, back, and spine.
It is noteworthy that this individual had traveled to Iran for work following the collapse of the government in Afghanistan. Recently returned to Afghanistan, he had just married and bore no affiliations with any opposing forces to the Taliban.
Local sources in Herat have further indicated that several days after the young man’s arrest, his family was notified to retrieve their son’s body. They assert that he lost his life due to the extensive torture he endured. However, Taliban officials have not provide any comment regarding this matter yet.
