This year, the Presidential Medal of Courage of Kosovo was awarded to Afghan women in a ceremony titled “International Women’s Assembly for Peace and Security.”

Madina Darwazi and Arefa Fatemi, human and women rights activists, received the Medal of Courage from Vjosa Osmani, the President of Kosovo, on behalf of Afghan women who have fought for justice, the right to education, and work against imposed restrictions.

The second International Women’s Assembly for Peace and Security took place on Monday, April 15, with the participation of over 800 representatives from 40 countries worldwide and the presence of the President of Kosovo.

It is reported that prominent figures such as Hillary Clinton, former US Secretary of State, the Presidents of Slovenia and Albania, and representatives from various countries around the world participated in the assembly both physically and online.

The Presidential Medal of Courage of Kosovo was previously awarded to Ukrainian women in 2023, but this year, it was presented to Afghan women’s rights activists.

The Medal of Courage of Kozovo is being awarded to Afghan women at a time when significant restrictions, including the right to education and work, have been imposed on Afghan women and girls in the past two years.
