KABUL, March 1 (Afghanistan Women’s News Agency) – Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, the Taliban acting minister of the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, issued a serious warning during a meeting with media representatives in Kabul. He stated that women and girls when appearing in the media for interviews or filming, may face complete prohibition from media work and activities if they do not use masks and veils to cover their faces.
The Afghanistan Journalists Center (AFJC) reported on Wednesday night, February 28, on its social media page X that during a meeting with the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice of the Taliban, with the presence of several media representatives at a hotel in Kabul, Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, the acting minister of this ministry, issued a warning. He stated that it is possible for Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of this group, to completely ban women from the media and public appearance due to not covering their faces.
Furthermore, the officials of this ministry have instructed authorities and media representatives to completely refrain and abstain from interviewing and conversing with women and girls whose faces are visible or who do not wear masks.
Despite the warning of banning women from working in the media, the Afghanistan Journalists Center has requested the Taliban group to revoke their new guidelines and allow journalists to continue their work and activities according to the laws of mass media.
However, a few days ago, the Taliban group had also announced the prohibition of women and girls contacting local media in the Khost province by phone.
With the emergence of the Taliban regime, numerous restrictions have been imposed against Afghan citizens, especially women and girls.
