HERAT, Dec 27 (Afghanistan Women’s News Agency) – Several inhabitants of Zinda Jan district in Herat province claim that, after three months have passed since the frequent and deadly earthquakes, they are still living under tents in the cold winter weather, lacking basic facilities and heating to combat the winter chill.

It is important to bring to attention the situation of Maryam, one of the survivors of the recent earthquake in Zinda Jan, Herat. After losing her home, Maryam and her family have been living under a tent in the winter cold for the past three months. She has expressed her concerns by stating that the amount of money provided to them is not sufficient to rebuild their homes. The family currently lacks proper living facilities and even a shelter to protect them from the cold nights. This is a critical issue that needs to be addressed as soon as possible to provide relief to the affected families.

Bibi Gul, another victim of the earthquakes, has lost her home and two children. She says, “My two children lost their lives under the rubble, we lost everything we had, and now we are living under tents in this cold weather. The nights are becoming very chilly, and I am worried that my two daughters may come to harm.”

The sequence of lethal earthquakes that recently struck the province of Herat has resulted in substantial human and financial losses. The first earthquake, which took place on October 7th, with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale, shook the city of Herat. As a result of these natural calamities, over four thousand people have suffered injuries or fatalities.

After the catastrophic earthquakes in western Afghanistan, numerous residential homes have been demolished, rendering the living conditions for the needy more arduous than before. Due to the lack of shelter, they spend their days and nights in tents without sufficient sustenance and clean water.
