Local sources in Kandahar province have reported that Mullah Abdul Karim Hassib, the General Director of the Taliban’s Passport Department, has been detained in this province.

According to the accounts of local sources, Mullah Abdul Karim Hassib, the General Director of the Taliban’s Passport Department, was summoned from Kabul to Kandahar by Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban in Afghanistan, on Friday, May 24th, and subsequently incarcerated.

It is worth noting that the General Director of the Passport Department had also been summoned to Kandahar by Mullah Hibatullah before the Eid al-Fitr, but at that time, he refrained from travelling to this province citing the holiday break.

While the precise reason for the detention of the General Director of the Taliban’s Passport Department remains unknown, sources claim that he has been arrested and imprisoned for administrative corruption and accepting bribes. However, the Taliban have not made any statements on this matter as of yet.

This comes in light of the fact that the brother of Alam Gul Haqani, the former General Director of the Taliban’s Passport Department, was detained by Taliban Intelligence two years ago for involvement in a gathering with the participation of dancing girls and boys, bottles of alcohol, and several passport documents, only to be released shortly after.

Furthermore, last year on December 1, 2023, Taliban intelligence forces detained the brother-in-law of the provincial Director of the Passport Department in Parwan on charges of accepting a bribe of 200 dollars.
