HERAT, October 23 (Afghan Women’s News Agency) – Following the earthquakes of the past two weeks in Herat province, a lot of aid from various organizations and countries poured into this province for the victims of these earthquakes. However, a number of residents of this province say that the process of distributing the collected aid is not fairly among the needy and those who deserve it are deprived of these aids.

Zulaikha is one of those whose house was seriously damaged after the recent earthquakes in Herat, and she and her family have been spending their days and nights by the road for more than two weeks.

Zulaikha says that until now no attention has been given to them and the aid is distributed based on recognition and ethnicity. She continues: “Our house is badly damaged, we don’t have enough food, we don’t have shelter, and my children all got sick, but there is no one to solve our problems.”

This is while a large number of aid groups in Herat have concentrated their humanitarian aid in several districts and remote areas, and residents in and around Herat city say that they are in a bad economic situation and do not even have a tent to stay in.

Zarmina is one of the victims of the earthquakes in Herat, who lives in Jibril region of this province.

She says: “Our house is not safe, earthquakes happen frequently and we have been camping outside the house between the dirt fields for two weeks, the nights are cold and the days are very hot. No one cares about us when we go to the local representative, he says that the earthquake is over, you don’t need help and go back to your homes.”

Some of the victims of the earthquake say that the officials distribute the aid among themselves and their acquaintances or based on ethnicity, and some of them provide aid only in specific areas because of their name and fame.

The recent deadly earthquakes in Herat province have caused a lot of life and financial losses for the residents of this province, and the most affected by these earthquakes are women and children of different districts, especially Zinda Jan district.
