AFGHANISTAN – Officials from the provincial hospital of Badakhshan province recently reported the registration of four cases of suicide in this province.
Dr Shafiq Hamdard, the chief medical officer of the provincial hospital of Badakhshan, stated on Saturday, April 13th, that during the three days of Eid, four young girls took their own lives consuming a substance known as rat poison.
According to the information provided, these four girls were treated after being transferred to the hospital and were saved from death.
Sources added that the reason for the suicide attempts by these four young girls has been attributed to domestic violence and forced marriages.
It is reported that last week, an 18-year-old girl in Fayzabad City, the capital of Badakhshan province, also committed suicide and ended her life.
With the gaining of power by the Taliban in Afghanistan, several young girls have resorted to suicide due to forced and underage marriages.
