Following restrictions on women’s work in Afghanistan, a significant number of them have become unemployed, and some relief organizations have ceased their activities, leading to economic difficulties and limited access to humanitarian aid for the people.

The UN Women section in Afghanistan has stated that the Taliban’s restrictive orders on women’s work have reduced access to humanitarian aid and support for vulnerable women across Afghanistan.

Some impoverished families have complained about the lack of assistance, stating that their economic problems have worsened this year compared to previous years.

Bibi Gul, a female labourer who has been selling goods for several years, expressed, “In the past, my income was better, and the assistance we used to receive would help solve some of our problems, but for several months now, we have received no help.”

Shabnam Samadi, a woman who previously worked at a foreign institution, has been unemployed for about a year due to restrictions on women’s work in Afghanistan.

“I used to work at a foreign institution in the past, but after the restrictions on women’s work were imposed, I became unemployed. This unemployment, along with depression, has led to the deterioration of our economic situation. It is very challenging in the current circumstances to start from scratch and rebuild our lives; this suffering is not just suffering, but goes beyond that,” Shabnam said.

Shabnam is a prominent example of the thousands of other women who have faced the same fate due to restrictions prohibiting the employment of Afghan girls and women in non-governmental organizations.

The UN Women section in Afghanistan further adds that the restrictions on women’s work have caused some international aid agencies to suspend their humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan, resulting in a decrease in support for projects aimed at empowering women and girls.

Furthermore, budget shortages have led to the World Food Program reducing food aid to two million needy individuals, mostly women and children.
