Sahraa Mani, a renowned Afghan filmmaker, has been honored with the global "Feminist Majority Foundation" award in the United States.

Sahraa Mani, a renowned Afghan filmmaker, has been honored with the global “Feminist Majority Foundation” award in the United States.

Ms. Mani received this award following the production of the documentary film “Bread and Red Roses,” which portrays the resistance of Afghan women against the Taliban.

The Feminist Majority Foundation announced on Wednesday, January 2nd, that the sixteenth annual Women’s Rights Awards ceremony was held in Los Angeles, USA last week, where the Mavis Leno Award for Global Women’s Rights was presented to Sahraa Mani and the team of the documentary “Bread and Red Roses.”

This award was presented by Jay Leno, the former renowned television host in America, and his wife Mavis Leno, a board member of the foundation, along with Dr. Sima Samar, the former head of the Independent Human Rights Commission of Afghanistan, to Sahraa Mani.

Meanwhile, Sahraa Mani expressed in a message on her social media page: “My goal is to document the struggles of women in my country for future generations, and I am honored to have received the Feminist Majority award for my work on the women of my country. I hope this award can help raise the voices of women in Afghanistan and bring about significant changes in this country.”

The documentary “Bread and Red Roses” portrays the lives of three women after the Taliban’s rule over Afghanistan, which has recently garnered significant support from women in the country.

Directed by Sahraa Mani in collaboration with Jennifer Lawrence, a Hollywood actress and Oscar winner, along with Malala Yousafzai, a Nobel laureate, the documentary delves into the situation of Afghan women after the withdrawal of international coalition forces from the country in 2021.
