Noorullahadi Abu Eduris, the deputy governor of the Taliban for Balkh province, has called for an increase in Uzbekistan merchants’ investments in Afghanistan, highlighting the commonalities that bring Afghanistan and Uzbekistan closer. He stated, “Necessary facilities should be provided for Afghan merchants to market their goods in Uzbekistan, and necessary facilities should also be provided for the transit of their products.”

At the end of this meeting, memorandums of understanding were signed between the merchants of the two countries, based on which Uzbekistan will facilitate exports of Afghan goods such as carpets, raisins, and steam pots, and will assist the country in equipping active factories in Balkh with modern technology. Furthermore, Uzbekistan will also assist Afghan merchants in the transit sector of commercial goods.

In the past week, this has been perceived as the Taliban’s second attempt to expand relations with neighbors. Previously, the Taliban Minister of Industry and Commerce had announced the signing of several agreements between Afghan and Turkmenistan merchants.
