Uncertain Future of Government Employees; Taxes Halal and Pension Haram?
Mullah Habibullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban group, has recently issued an order to the military and civilian administration not to deduct retirement benefits from the monthly salaries of employees.

Mullah Habibullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban group, has recently issued an order to the military and civilian administration not to deduct retirement benefits from the monthly salaries of employees.

Government employees in the country practically consider this action by the leader of the Taliban group as tantamount to the dissolution and end of the retirement system in the country. According to the Taliban’s decision, if government employees retire, they will have no future in the country and will not be entitled to any benefits.

Per Mullah Habibullah’s order, the deduction of retirement benefits from the monthly salaries of employees will be stopped from the beginning of the current solar year.

A source from the Taliban’s finance ministry has confirmed this order and stated that according to this order, there are no longer retirement benefits and privileges.

Furthermore, the leader of the Taliban group has requested the finance ministry to provide information and reports on all civilian and military employees, including their date of appointment, length of service, and the specified amount of their retirement allowance.

While it has been three years since retirees in the country have not received any rights or privileges and have repeatedly complained about their deteriorating economic situation and life, a group of 150,000 retired officials claim that they have been waiting for their retirement benefits for nearly three years and many of them have protested multiple times and complained about not receiving their retirement pensions. However, in the past three years, this group has not paid the retirement benefits of government employees, but has delayed and made various excuses to avoid paying them.

Last year, the Taliban’s finance ministry announced that 4 billion Afghanis had been allocated to pay retirees, but the leader of the group did not approve the payment at that time.

It is worth mentioning that Mullah Habibullah Akhundzada, in his new decree banning retirement systems in government offices, has not yet provided any reasons, but it is felt that some leaders of this group consider retirement benefits contrary to Sharia law based on their beliefs and interpretations.

With the Taliban group regaining power in Afghanistan, women and girls have been deprived of all their basic rights and privileges, but recently, this group has also deprived men of their legal rights and privileges, namely retirement benefits.
