The World Food Program (WFP) has recently issued a warning that the recent floods in Afghanistan have exacerbated the food insecurity crisis in the affected districts.

Hsiao Hui Lee, one of the directors of the World Food Program, stated that there is a likelihood of further floods in the coming months in this country.

“With one disaster after another impacting society, plunging people into poverty, food security in Afghanistan is now at risk of being lost,” Hui Lee said.

Meanwhile, the World Food Program has also warned of the intensifying impact of the floods in the past two weeks in the northeastern and northwestern regions of the country in the upcoming months. Factors such as unusual precipitation after a dry winter in Afghanistan have made the land more susceptible to heavy rainfall.

The organization further stated that the recent destructive floods in the country have affected over 80,000 individuals, and the cascading tragedies resulting from severe rains and floods in Afghanistan are driving people towards deeper poverty.
