As the third month of the fiscal year has commenced in Afghanistan, the Taliban group has finally been able to announce the news of the current year’s budget.
Zabihullah Mujahid, the spokesman for this group, revealed the announcement of the national budget issuance by their leader through a message on social media.
However, similar to the previous year, no precise figures regarding the amount and allocation of the budget have been provided, nor have the informational aspect of budgeting methods been disclosed.
The failure to approve the budget has led to the suspension of several development projects in various provinces, as Taliban officials have always linked the continuity of these projects to budget approval.
In the previous republican system, although budget approval was time-consuming, efforts were made to incorporate the perspectives of different sectors into the next year’s budget plan, which would then be approved by parliament. During the Taliban’s rule, the parliament has been dissolved and eradicated from the system’s structure. Because they consider it as part of democracy and contrary to the ideology of this group, talking about democracy and promoting it in Afghanistan under the Taliban’s rule is deemed a grave crime, punishable by imprisonment.
However, the Taliban leader does not receive opinions and suggestions from various sectors, especially experts, regarding budget approval. Consequently, during the publication of the budget approval news in the reign of this group, more details regarding the ordinary budget and development budget are not provided, leaving the public in an informational void.
