As the new academic year begins with the absence of female students and ongoing educational restrictions against girls in Afghanistan, a group of protesting women under the name of the Women’s Freedom Foramen Movement have called on the global community to urge the Taliban to reconsider their policies due to the complete deprivation of women’s rights, institutionalization of gender apartheid, and war crimes.

This marks the third academic year in Afghanistan where female students above the sixth grade are denied access to schools. The closure of schools and educational institutions for female students and learners has sparked significant domestic and international reactions.

On this matter, Cenk Ünal, the Chargé d’Affaires & Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Kabul, who was present at an iftar ceremony at the Foundation for Education in the capital of Afghanistan, has urged the Taliban to reopen the gates of universities and schools to Afghan girls.

About this issue, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) also announced that due to the ongoing restrictions on girls’ right to education, more than 330,000 Afghan girls have been left out of accessing secondary education in the new academic year.
