Purple Saturdays Movement: “The claim of providing security by the Taliban and armed attacks on Shiites and Hazaras”
The Purple Saturdays Movement, in response to the armed attack on the Imam Zaman Mosque in the Guldara district of Herat province, has stated that attacks on civilians and worshippers in the holiest Muslim place are not a new phenomenon for the people of Afghanistan.

The Purple Saturdays Movement, in response to the armed attack on the Imam Zaman Mosque in the Guldara district of Herat province, has stated that attacks on civilians and worshippers in the holiest Muslim place are not a new phenomenon for the people of Afghanistan. Over the past twenty years, with the support and collaboration of other terrorist groups, hundreds of terrorist attacks have been carried out on unarmed citizens in public places, even during the Ramadan month.

The movement asserts: “When the Taliban government claims to provide comprehensive security and asserts that the ISIS terrorist group does not exist in Afghanistan, how can they justify the high number of attacks on Shia worshippers in Mohammadi village, Guldara district of Herat province, for which the ISIS terrorist group has claimed responsibility?”

Furthermore, the statement emphasizes that although with the resurgence of the Taliban government, the physical and mental security of all citizens has been compromised, considering the readings of the Taliban, attacks by ISIS and other terrorist groups on religious sites and residential areas of Shiites and Hazaras have significantly increased.

According to the Purple Saturdays Movement, the maintenance of Taliban in power will not only lead to further suppression of women, vulnerable ethnic groups, and religious minorities but also by turning the country into a haven for international terrorists, Afghanistan has become a cancerous tumour for regional and global security and prosperity.

With the increase in targeted terrorist attacks, and widespread violation of human rights of citizens, especially women and vulnerable ethnic groups, by the policies of the Taliban and religious minorities, the global community, especially the United States of America, should cease appeasement, whitewashing, and maintenance of the Taliban in power under the guise of engagement, and instead support an alternative self-proclaimed Taliban government that is “legitimate, democratic, and decentralized.”
