The Rabia Balkhi Statue in the literary field was bestowed to Safia Milad, an Afghan poet in Vienna City, the capital of Austria.

This is the second round of awarding the Rabia Balkhi statue to Afghan women’s rights activists, which took place on the 3rd and 4th of May, 2024, in Vienna, the capital of Austria.

Safia Milad, through a text on her Facebook page, expressed that after the announcement of the results by the jury, she had won the first prize at this festival with the highest votes.

She further added in her remarks: “I was not present at the statue award ceremony in Vienna, and based on the previous decision of the jury, the ‘Rabia Balkhi’ statue was awarded to the second person who was present at the ceremony.”

Safia Milad obtained her first Bachelor’s degree from the Journalism Faculty, then graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the Faculty of Law and Political Science in 2012. In 2017, she sought political asylum in Canada and now resides in Vancouver.

Ms. Milad has been recognized by Yak Private Television Channel as one of the successful Afghan women and has also been introduced as a creative woman by BBC Persian Television.

The Rabia Balkhi Statue is being awarded to Safia Milad at a time when women and girls in Afghanistan have been deprived of their right to education over the past two years and faced numerous restrictions in terms of women’s employment opportunities.
