The Taliban has recently been involved in the detention of women in Kabul for the alleged reason of “bad hijab” and has been transferring them to undisclosed locations.

Richard Bennett, the UN special rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, has written in reaction to the recent arrests in Kabul, stating: “Recent arrests of women in Kabul, Afghanistan, for “bad hijab”, confirmed by the Taliban, regrettably signifies further restrictions on women’s freedom of expression and undermines other rights.”

Richard Bennett urged the immediate and without conditions release of all these women and girls.

This comes as, over the past few days, the detention of women by the Taliban forces under the pretext of bad hijab has been ongoing from various parts of Kabul, with their transfer to undisclosed detention centers.
