In a statement, the United Nations Women’s Department called the situation of Afghan women a warning to the world. Following the tightening of restrictions on women by the Taliban, the officials of the United Nations Women’s Department consider what is happening in Afghanistan to be a warning to the world.
In a statement today (Tuesday, July 26), Alison Davidin, head of the UN Women’s Department in Afghanistan, said that what is happening in Afghanistan is a wake-up call for everyone. Because it shows how decades of progress in gender equality and women’s rights can literally be wiped out in a matter of months. She said: “Afghanistan is the only country in the world where girls are banned from going to school. I am here to explain to you that while women are fighting these restrictions, they are also living in a kind of growing fear.”
According to Davidin, many Afghan women and girls feel that they are now invisible and that the world has forgotten them. She added that this is a clear call to everyone that the fight for women’s rights in Afghanistan is a global fight and a fight for women’s rights everywhere.
This is while nearly a year has passed since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, but so far they have not had a specific plan to improve the status of women, the right to education, work, and women’s freedom.
