Heather Barr: Excluding Women from the Doha Meeting is a Betrayal of Women's Rights and Dignity Heather Barr, associate director of the Women's Rights Division at Human Rights Watch, in connection with the third Doha Meeting, posted a message on their social media page, stating that no Afghan woman has been invited to represent Afghan women at the third Doha Meeting, and women's rights issues have been omitted from the agenda of this conference. Ms. Barr further added that she had hoped for progress from the United Nations in this regard through the presence of women at the second Doha Meeting, but in the third Doha Meeting, the United Nations did not invite any Afghan women. The associate director of the Women's Rights Division at Human Rights Watch has described this action of the United Nations as a betrayal of women's and girls' rights worldwide. However, some women's rights activists in Afghanistan argue that this action by the United Nations was unexpected for them, and the exclusion of women from the third Doha Meeting signifies that the world and the global community have left Afghan women alone. Regarding the exclusion of women from the third Doha Meeting, the Research and Development Institution has released a series of visual messages showing one hundred Afghan women from all 28 provinces of Afghanistan, who are calling for the boycott of the upcoming Doha conference. Furthermore, some activists and Afghan policymakers are also demanding the boycott of the third Doha Meeting.
